Nautronix is achieving its goal to be 'Global Leaders in Through Water Communication and Positioning Technology for the Offshore Industry' by continued research into underwater acoustics and related infrastructure.
Acoustics is the dominant technology for positioning, communication and sensing of underwater assets. To improve our access to the ocean the users of this technology are demanding more; more accuracy, more reliability, more range or depth and more data.
Above water we have seen a revolution in positioning and communication with the general introduction of GPS, digital phones and other wireless technology. However, underwater improvements have developed at a much slower pace.
In the mid 1990’s Nautronix started to asses its signalling options for futures systems. It already had significant experience in conventional narrowband signalling and broadband chirps, but realised that neither of these technologies were likely to meet the increasing requirements of its customers.
After a significant evaluation of the alternatives a new signalling technique was adopted. Nautronix concentrated on increasing the signal bandwidth and develop what it called Acoustic Digital Spread Spectrum, or ADS² signalling. The signalling borrowed from direct sequence spread spectrum (DSS) coding techniques that had been successfully used above water. The coding, transmitting and receiving algorithms were honed and optimised for the peculiarities of the underwater environment through extensive trialling in both deep and shallow waters.
Today the techniques utilised are very sophisticated and have been deployed widely through a variety of positioning and communications products offered for both military and non military applications.
Whilst the acoustic algorithms are an important and differentiating competency of Nautronix, they form only a part of the overall technology capabilities of the company. It is the experience in the ocean environment and the ability to understand and capture the customer’s requirements which are as equally important to fielding successful applications.
Nautronix has the technology and capability in the full life cycle of applications development from initial requirements capture through systems design, manufacturing and installation which sets us apart from the rest.
